Explorer Band
The Explorer Band is our intermediate ensemble. It is suited to people with developing instrumental skills, proficiency in reading music and wanting to experience playing in a group setting.
Members build foundation skills, develop more fluency in their playing and learn how to be part of a large ensemble.
The ensemble learns and performs a range of musical styles including Broadway and film music, jazz, swing, classical music and pop tunes with repertoire written for developing players.
Explorer Band performs at the GKs’ regular concerts and at community events. Members can combine with Concert Band members for tours, competitions and other performances.

A BIT MORE
Golden Kangaroos Explorer Band suits developing players of all ages. While reasonable proficiency in reading music will help ensure a satisfying experience, this ensemble is well suited to people who are still learning their instrument and building confidence in ensemble playing.

Repertoire for Explorer Band is generally chosen from grades 2 to 3.5. Explorer Band competes in state and national championships at D Grade level. As a guide, the technical difficulty of most instrumental parts is roughly equivalent to AMEB Grades 2 to 5.
Members continue to build foundational skills, develop greater fluency in their playing, and learn how to contribute confidently as part of a large ensemble.

Explorer Band members may progress to the Concert Band and are also welcome to join the Marching Band and Stage Band, subject to availability.

Explorer Band welcomes woodwind, brass and percussion players, as well as bass guitar / upright bass, with limited opportunities for keyboard (doubling bass, harp, vibraphone, etc.).
You are very welcome to attend a rehearsal and speak with our Directors and players to help determine whether Explorer Band or another GK ensemble is the right choice for you.

Rehearsals: Monday night, 7.30–9.00pm
